Pokémon Horizons Episode 153: A Festival at Naranja Academy
Mesagoza is filled with food stalls, decorations, and visitors celebrating the annual Naranja Academy festival. Navi is delighted by the food and asks Ditto what they should try first, while Ult reminds everyone not to spend their allowance carelessly. Dot notices how the festive atmosphere has spread throughout the city.
The Rising Volt Tacklers soon reunite with Nemona, who asks how everyone has been since their time at Laqua. Roy tells her that the group has visited many different places. Although Nemona wants them to enjoy the festival, her duties as Student Council President keep her busy: students quickly approach her with problems involving a food stall and a malfunctioning speaker.
Penny and Team Star Prepare for the Parade
Dot leads the group into the academy building to visit Penny. They encounter a fortune-telling attraction and an exhibition of Ghost-type Pokémon before meeting the members of Team Star: Giacomo, Ortega, Eri, Mela, and Atticus. Their unusual introductions leave an impression on the visitors, but Penny explains why the group is dressed in its familiar outfits again.
Team Star no longer normally wears those old uniforms. For the festival, however, its members have decided to bring them back for the parade, the grand finale in which students and Pokémon wear costumes and march through Mesagoza.
Navi’s Ditto transforms into miniature versions of the team’s Pokémon, including Annihilape, Dachsbun, Honchkrow, Revavroom, and Torkoal. Everyone is impressed by its transformations. Giacomo suggests that Ditto could become the star of the parade, and Atticus offers to make Navi a costume. Navi eagerly agrees, while Dot promises to take plenty of pictures.
Raifort Investigates Strange Disasters Across Paldea
The cheerful reunion is interrupted when Raifort arrives with troubling evidence. Her images show devastated farmland, a wildfire, heavy snow, and a damaged road. These are not isolated incidents: crops have suddenly withered, forests have burned, and avalanches have occurred in places that should not have snow.
Raifort points out a disturbing connection. Reports of these events are concentrated near four Shrines of Ruin around the edges of Paldea. According to an old legend, shrines dating back to the era of the Paldean Empire were constructed to seal away calamities. She asks the Rising Volt Tacklers to investigate while she researches the legends further.
Because the shrines are far apart, the team decides to split up. Ult can travel with Dragonite, Roy has Kilowattrel, and Raifort arranges a Squawkabilly Flying Taxi for Liko and Dot. Navi stays with Penny and Team Star to prepare for the parade. Just as the others leave, Raifort warns them about ancient stakes driven into the ground near the shrines: they must not be pulled out recklessly.
Coral and Sidian Accidentally Remove All 32 Stakes
Raifort’s warning comes too late. Elsewhere in Paldea, Coral and Sidian are already removing stakes as part of a paid assignment. The former Explorers are traveling without a clear destination and need money to continue their journey. Coral complains about doing most of the physical work, while Sidian points out that she keeps losing their rock-paper-scissors decisions.
Their employer, a historian named Hokkora, believes that mapping the stakes will help solve the mystery of the Shrines of Ruin. But during a phone conversation, he discovers a serious misunderstanding: he hired the pair to locate the stakes, not remove them.
By the time Hokkora realizes what happened, Coral and Sidian have already pulled out all eight stakes in each of the four areas—32 stakes in total. The shocked historian demands to know what they have done. Strange rumbling follows, and the pair investigate a mysterious cave, unaware of the full consequences of their mistake.
The Four Ruinous Pokémon Awaken
The investigation becomes a crisis as unfamiliar Pokémon appear near the different shrines. Liko discovers a stake that has already been removed and follows the signs of the wildfire with Meowscarada and Armarouge. Roy encounters unexpected snow alongside Captain Pikachu and Skeledirge. Dot sees a moving pile of leaves, while Ult crosses paths with Coral and Sidian near the ruins.
These encounters reveal the four Ruinous Pokémon: Chi-Yu, Chien-Pao, Wo-Chien, and Ting-Lu. Rather than simply providing clues about the strange disasters, their appearance places the investigators directly in danger.
Battle Highlights in Pokémon Horizons Episode 153
Ult and Sableye Confront Ting-Lu
Ult initially suspects that Coral and Sidian are involved in another Explorers scheme. Sidian insists that the organization has disbanded and that they are merely investigating ruins for a job. Their confrontation is interrupted by Ting-Lu. Coral orders Scream Tail to attack, but the immense Pokémon proves frighteningly powerful.
Ult commands Sableye to use Power Gem near Ting-Lu’s feet, then escapes onto Dragonite when another attack approaches. He expects Dragonite’s Flying type to protect it from Ground-type moves, but the danger is not over. Both Dragonite and Sableye are placed in trouble, showing that a normal type-based strategy may not be enough.
Dot and Quaquaval Battle Wo-Chien
Dot faces Wo-Chien, the mysterious Pokémon she first mistakes for a moving heap of leaves. She orders Quaquaval to use Air Cutter, then follows up with Wave Crash. Despite these attempts, Quaquaval struggles against the opponent’s power. Dot’s alarm grows when her partner is overwhelmed.
Roy and Skeledirge Face Chien-Pao
Roy recognizes that Chien-Pao appears to be an Ice-type Pokémon and believes Skeledirge has the advantage. He orders Flamethrower, expecting the Fire-type attack to work. Instead, he is stunned that the icy opponent does not melt as expected. Skeledirge is pushed into difficulty, leaving Roy struggling to understand the unexpected result.
Liko Discovers Something Strange About Chi-Yu
Liko encounters Chi-Yu with Meowscarada and Armarouge. She trusts that Armarouge’s Flash Fire Ability should absorb a Fire-type attack, but the exchange does not unfold the way she expects. Her Pokémon are shaken, and Liko realizes that something about the battle is wrong. Rather than continue recklessly, she tells Meowscarada to fall back.
Ending Explained: Why Are the Ruinous Pokémon So Dangerous?
The ending does not resolve the four battles. Instead, it emphasizes how little the group understands about the newly awakened Pokémon. Ult’s confidence in Dragonite’s type immunity, Roy’s expected Fire-type advantage, Dot’s attacks, and Liko’s reliance on Flash Fire all fail to provide straightforward answers.
What the episode does establish is the connection between the ancient stakes, the Shrines of Ruin, and the sudden appearances of the four Pokémon. Coral and Sidian’s mistake removed the stakes sealing the shrines, while the mysterious disasters had already drawn Raifort’s attention. The final scene returns to Raifort as she identifies them as the Ruinous Pokémon, setting up an unresolved confrontation.
Friede’s Mega Study: What Was Chien-Pao Originally?
Friede’s Mega Study segment, presented with Instructor Starmie, focuses on Chien-Pao, the Legendary Pokémon capable of controlling snow. Friede asks what form Chien-Pao had before becoming the Pokémon seen today.
The answer is B: a sword. Friede explains that an ancient sword is believed to have snapped in half, with the two broken portions becoming Chien-Pao’s left and right fangs.
